It was just a simple Friday night
on the sixth day of February.
It began entirely normal.
Everything was so plain ordinary.
We stopped at the grocery
for a little drink and food,
and some vanilla ice cream
to create a festive mood.
What the night would bring
we had not a clue,
but we left it to the grandchildren,
and they knew just what to do.
Montana had planned ahead
and brought a bag full of tricks.
She and Maddi performed a magic show
for the neighbors just for kicks.
Then we decided to have a bite,
a little something to eat.
Easy Mac for the girls
was quite a tasty treat.
Next on the agenda
came a friendly game of Charades.
We pretended to be animals
and throwing beads at a parade.
The stage was a mattress.
Our imaginations went wild.
We acted and pretended.
It felt great to be a child!
Next came dessert
Each sundae was a work of art
Using ice cream and cookies,
the girls were busy from the start.
Computer time came next
Everyone was “Busy as bees,”
writing short little jingles
that were composed with such ease.
The bed was made, and
the movie began to play.
And where was Granddaddy?
Asleep after a busy day.
Awakening to cheerful voices and giggles
Grandmother looked at the clock
Oh, it’s only seven thirty
Wow! That was a shock!
She pretended to be sleeping,
so Granddaddy got up instead.
Oh what a smart move she made!
She got coffee and breakfast in bed.
Off for a walk to feed the ducks,
each girl with a slice of bread.
Everyone was having such fun.
until the geese scared us instead.
The geese hissed and honked
and chased us away,
but we laughed and giggled.
Those geese didn’t ruin our day.
We headed for home,
and stopped for a swing in the park.
Granddaddy pushed the girls,
and Buster tried not to bark.
Soon it was time to go home.
The spend-the-night-party was over.
Grandmother and Granddaddy
needed a nap to recover.

remmember that day like it was yesterday. It was so much fun. I needed a long sleep to recover too.
