Buffalo

In Yellowstone the buffalo are plenty
They roam the open spaces
Once at night a buffalo
Crossed the road and looked into our faces

He was so massive
Such a large, huge guy
I was very scared
to look him in the eye.

What if he came toward us
sitting in our little car
He could smash us and turn us over
And send us off so far.

I began to respect the buffalo
Bison is really its name
I thought of the many years ago
When it roamed the plains and earned its fame.

They are not extinct
in Montana there are plenty
but how about in Louisiana
who knows if we have any.

We may have some at the zoo
or on an animal farm
but not like in Montana
where they roam freely without harm.
