Going, Going, Gone

Well as you can see, Joe is very proud of himself. He has found one more use for his John Deere. The Hemlock trees in North Carolina are all dying from an invasion by the wooly adelgid. This insect was first discovered in 1954, but it now threatens the entire hemlock population of the eastern United States.

For those of you that have been to our cabin, you might remember our three hemlocks that offered privacy between our cabin and the Johnson's house. We also planted another hemlock to camouflage the telephone pole. Well, two of our hemlocks are gone, and the other two aren't in very good shape either. Joe was unable to save the trees despite all of the spraying that he did.
