Wrong Turn

Just
a wrong turn
in the course
of life.

One
wrong turn
leading
to the next.

Off the beaten path,
he stumbled,
falling into
quicksand.

The wet sand
drew him in
to the depths
of despair.

Struggling
to surface.
A faint, distant light
beckons.

Closer now,
he feels
a familiar warmth
on his face.

Open arms
reach out to him.
He sees
a smile.

To the edge and back
his journey
has brought him
home.

Thanks to my son, Brett Troxler, who edited this poem for me.
